Program Description
THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE
- Welcome to Rome. Home to Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica and many other historic landmarks.
- You will be staying at the Generalate of the Christian Brothers in Rome, Casa La Salle.
- Casa La Salle offers a unique living and learning environment into the culture and history of Rome.
- 120 guest rooms are furnished with a bed, desk, closet, bathroom, Internet and air-conditioning.
- A large dining room serves meals.
- Classrooms and meeting rooms are reserved for daytime instruction. Your coursework here will count toward your degree program. Faculty-led excursions will immerse you in the culture of Rome.
- The Chapel offers a beautiful place to pray before the relics of St. John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers.
- Casa La Salle is surrounded by the green and serenity of a 50,000 square meter private park, offering many opportunities to study and gather outdoors with faculty and fellow students.
- Within nearby walking distance are shops, restaurants, convenient stores, pharmacies, and other small businesses.
- Located 300 meters from the Metro, it is a short distance to St. Peter’s, the center of Rome, and nearby cultural and historic points of interest. From here you can easily visit other European countries. Arrivederci!
The ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ Rome Program at LUCE is a unique study abroad opportunity for students from Lasallian colleges and universities around the world to study with each other while living at the Lasallian Universities Center for Education (LUCE) in the Generalate, the motherhouse of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Rome, Italy. Conveniently located less than a block from the Metro and major bus lines, all of the famous sites of Rome are just a few minutes away. Its extensive grounds and facilities provide a safe and ideal place to study and explore the city.
ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ faculty members lead the Lewis Rome Program at LUCE, living at the Generalate with the students, teaching courses, and traveling with the students on program sponsored excursions. This exciting program provides students the opportunity to use Rome as their classroom as they complete courses toward their degree while gaining a deeper understanding of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, the De La Salle Christian Brothers, and the international Lasallian network. It also includes excursions to other parts of Italy, so participants can explore the rich history and culture of the country.
COURSES
Students will take a full load of courses, including one course from each of the faculty leaders, for a total of four to six courses. Any of the courses taken on the program may also count toward the Globalization Gen Ed requirement. Courses are taught Monday through Thursday, allowing students ample opportunity to explore more of the rich culture of Rome and Italy outside of class. The courses scheduled for Spring 2025 are:

Satisfies the Humanities and Fine Arts-Literature Gen Ed requirement.
- THEO-26700 Practicing Faithful Justice*
Satisfies Catholic and Lasallian Heritage 20000-Level Theology Gen Ed requirement.
*This course has a 10000-level theology prerequisite. Students opting for this course must have taken the prerequisite or take a 10000-level online asynchronous theology course along with the THEO-26700.

Satisfies Integrative Learning-Interdisciplinary Seminar Gen Ed requirement.
HOUSING
Students will live in a single person room at the Generalate. Each room features a bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe, and a bathroom with shower. There is a shared common space for the program participants, as well as laundry facilities.
A meal plan at the Generalate dining facilities will also be provided as part of the program. Students will be provided breakfast and either lunch or dinner every day.
COST
For ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ students, the cost of the program will be ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ tuition and all financial aid applies. For students outside of ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥, contact the ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ Study Abroad Office at swansoch@lewisu.edu. The program costs for the Lewis Rome Program at LUCE include:

The program cost does not include:

Program costs are based on costs of the prior year, as well as projections for the current and coming years. Inflation and fluctuating exchange rates make it difficult to state a fixed cost. ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥, therefore, reserves the right to adjust program fees and the right to cancel or alter programs and courses.
