April 10, 2025 Update on Federal Immigration Enforcement

Published: April 10, 2025.

ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ has learned that the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records of a number of its international students, as well as international alumni on work authorization, have been terminated by the U.S. government.

A status termination generally means that an affected individual is recommended to voluntarily leave the country and/or consult with a US immigration attorney immediately

While it is not uncommon to see terminations for various reasons, ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ and other higher education institutions across the country are seeing an elevated volume and frequency in recent weeks. ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ played no role in these terminations.

At this time, the precise rationale for these terminations is unclear.

ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ is not aware of federal law enforcement activity on any campus locations. ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥’s Front Door Policy, which shares guidelines for interacting with governmental and/or law enforcement agents on citizenship status inquiries, is available at .

The ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ Office of International Student and Global Scholar Services has contacted the individuals subject to status termination to advise them about the potential consequences and to provide information about legal resources, by request.

“ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ values the contributions of international students to our global university,” commented Dr. David Livingston, president of ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥.

“We are committed to supporting our students and alumni as they navigate this unexpected and challenging time, and we remain disappointed in the lack of information surrounding the decision to revoke the visas of our students and alumni.”

The Office of International Student and Global Scholar Services (ISGSS) is actively engaged in helping international students and alumni.

  • Directly communicating with the affected international students and international alumni
  • Providing guidance and support to all Lewis international students and international alumni
  • Monitoring the unprecedented situation for potential impacts on current international students and international alumni

ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ is a modern, enterprising, Catholic university with a growing student enrollment from GED through doctoral level programs. As part of the global Lasallian network of 65 universities, Lewis is known for preparing graduates who impact the world for the better. Visit www.lewisu.edu for further information.
