Adrienne Gonzales receives the 2013 Presidential Volunteer Service Award

Published: April 17, 2014.

ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ student Adrienne Gonzales of Bolingbrook recently received the 2013 Presidential Volunteer Service Award for her volunteer contributions during her internship last year at Naper Settlement in Naperville. She earned the Bronze Level designation for her 150 hours of volunteerism.

The President’s Volunteer Service Award program was granted by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, which recognizes volunteer contributions to communities and promotes more service. The award applauds and honors Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

While participating in the History Internship Program at ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ over the spring and summer, Gonzales gave tours for school and summer camp groups, as well as senior citizens and young families, explaining the history that resides within the outdoor museum that is Naper Settlement. As a major in history, the experience taught her how much she enjoys working with and teaching the middle school age group about history.

“I greatly enjoyed my time interning at Naper Settlement as I developed more confidence in my public speaking skills, adapted lessons and learned to think on my feet,” said Gonzales. “All of these skills will help me succeed as a teacher in the classroom. Naper Settlement has helped me grow as an educator.”

ÌðÐÄÖ±²¥ is a Catholic university in the Lasallian tradition offering distinctive undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 6,600 traditional and adult students.
